Description
The School of Education at Georgia Southwestern State University is committed to preparing and continuously developing candidates from diverse populations to high levels of achievement as educational professionals. The School of Education is organized into three departments: Special Education, Reading and Early Childhood Education; Health and Human Performance; Middle and Secondary Education. All programs reflect commitment to collaboration with colleagues in the School of Arts and Sciences, and the public schools.
Through a network of 38 Professional Development Schools located in 11 area school systems the field experience and academic components of our programs are fully integrated. Individuals can earn baccalaureate degrees with certification in Early Childhood Education, Middle Grades Education, Special Education, and Health and Physical Education. Individuals interested in secondary certification can pursue baccalaureate degrees with certification in English, History, and Mathematics. Degree programs in Exercise Science/Wellness and in Recreation are offered as well.
Graduate degree programs are available in Early Childhood, Middle Grades, Health and Human Performance, Reading , Secondary English, History and Mathematics. Alternative educator preparation programs are also available.
The School of Education is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). All of our programs are approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and are currently preparing for national reviews by NCATE affiliated Specialty Professional Associations.
