Clayton State University

Description

Clayton State University offers a Bachelors of Arts in Middle Level Education and a Bachelors of Music in Music Education. The Middle Level Education program is designed to lead to certification for teaching two concentrations from among the four content areas of mathematics, science, social sciences and language arts in grades 4-8. The Music Education program is designed for music education candidates to become certified to teach choral or instrumental music in pre-kindergarten through grade twelve. Partnerships for clinical experiences and internships have been formed with schools in six local counties (Clayton, Fayette, Fulton, Henry, Rockdale, and Griffin-Spalding). Both teacher preparation programs provide unique and diverse experiences for Clayton State University students. Upon completion of the Middle Level Education program at Clayton State University, students have spent nearly one thousand hours in a middle school and have demonstrated proficiency in all four content areas. The Music Education program requires over nine hundred clinical experience hours for students enrolled in the program.

Clayton State University is well known for advancing the use of technology in the classroom and was among the first public universities in the nation to equip all students and faculty with notebook computers.

Clayton State University is located just 10 minutes south of Atlanta's Hartsfield International Airport in Morrow, Georgia. The university serves more than one million people living in the southern suburbs of metropolitan Atlanta. Some 6,064 students may pursue challenging baccalaureate, associate, and masters degree programs through the University System of Georgia, as well as vocational and technical degrees and certificates through the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education.

The main campus is located on 163 acres in Morrow, with a newly opened satellite campus in Fayette County. The university also holds continuing education classes in Clayton, Fayette, Henry and Fulton Counties. Clayton State University is currently a non-residential university attracting both traditional and non-traditional students whose average age is 28. The university plans to open its first residential hall in the fall of 2008. The university also has the second-largest continuing education program in the state of Georgia.

This unique institution offers 28 undergraduate degree programs in the diverse fields of applied biology, middle-grades education, music, nursing, health-care management, allied health administration, dental hygiene practice and administration, administrative management, technology management, accounting, management, marketing, general business, information technology, and integrative studies. There are now only two Associate's degrees A.A and A.S in Integrative Studies. The university now offers masters degrees in four areas; Liberal Studies, Nursing, Health Administration and Business Administration. There are seven Applied Associate Degree and Certificate programs. These programs are career-focused and designed to prepare students with the technical and professional skills necessary to immediately enter the world of work.
